One Pursuit, Pt. 19 :: John 8:31-59

This past weekend Kensen continued our series in John as we looked at what real freedom actually looks like. We have a distinct view of what freedom is here in America, but what is freedom according to the Bible, and how can we enjoy that freedom?

Encouraging Allison

In Joe’s never ending search for authentic Italian restaurants, he fell upon Nella’s Pizzeria on Clark. For the past few months, the Lincoln Park family (a true large Italian family with about 60 of us there weekly) has been breaking bread (or should I say, pizza crust) together the 4th Sunday of every month.

On September 26th, during our time at Nella’s, we will be coming around our fellow LP’er Allison Ginsberg to join her in her fight against ALS! We are asking each person to consider paying $22 for lunch (with $12 going toward the meal which includes a full sized pizza and a drink and $10 going to Allison).

This is our opportunity to encourage Allison in her fight and to learn more from her glowing spirit. We would love for you to join us at 11:30am on September 26th! In the meantime, check out www.allisonginsbergfund.com to learn more about Allison and how we can help her! Ciao!

Lincoln Park Volunteers Duke it out in Dodgeball

Park’s Lincoln Park Campus arguably has the most energetic and cohesive Sunday service team that helps to make services possible from ushering to greeting and helping with set-up and tear down.

To expand this cohesiveness across the teams and the greeting ministry, we have begun to plan activities for the teams to come together to create true community. And as a kick off our upcoming fall season, we brought the four Sunday Service Teams together for a friendly (minus the bruises!) game of dodge ball.

We had Team Bens (weeks 1 & 2 are led by Ben Barnes & Ben Rohr – aka The Bens) vs. Team Texans (weeks 3 & 4 are led by the Brandon Sanchez & I – the very proud to be Texans). I would love to say it was neck and neck until the tie breaking game 7. But let’s be honest…. we got smoked!

Between Carly Gill’s insane catches, the intimidating shades of the boys in green (see the pics), and Justin Matarazzo’s intense ball whaling that weeks 3 & 4 could not dodge, it was a quick 30 minutes until the Texans were sadly defeated! Way to go Team Bens!

Afterwards, we received some great words of encouragement from Ben Barnes and shared lunch from Austrian bakery and the amazing LP bakers (the desserts were to die for, great job ladies!).  We were hoping to end the day by dunking Riccardi in the outdoor swimming pool at Francis Parker, but he safely snuck out before we could pull it off!  I can speak for all four Sunday Service Managers in saying that we are not only blessed by enthusiastic and supportive greeting teams, but they definitely know how to put on their best 80’s head bands and have one heck of a fun Sunday afternoon together!
